Fine Wines from UK Private Collections Lead Bonhams Christmas Sale
A case of 1961 Château Latour, unopened for nearly 60 years until consigned for this sale, is one of the many great lots on offer at Bonhams Christmas Fine Wine sale in London on Thursday 26 November. Estimated at £30,000-40,000, it is among an eye-catching choice of fine and rare wines – the majority from private UK and European collections – in this auction, which also includes bottles from the cellar of the Ritz Club in London.
UK highlights include; Six bottles of Pétrus 1966 ; five bottles of Chapoutier Hermitage 1961 , and two dozen bottles of Graham 1955 Port from a cellar in Shropshire. Three magnums of Jean-Frédèric Mugnier’s Musigny 2002 from a cellar in Gloucestershire. Twelve bottles of 2005 Meursault La Goutte d’Or, Domaine Arnaud Ente consigned from Berkshire. Six bottles Clos-Vougeot 1999 Domaine René Engel from a private London cellar. A wide range of vintages from Felton Road, considered amongst the finest producers of Pinot Noir in New Zealand, from another London collector.
A German collector has consigned 25 lots of mature Riesling, including six bottles of Scharzhofberger Feine Auslese 1959, while bottles of Coche-Dury Meursault Perrieres and Corton-Charlemagne are offered from another European cellar. Until its closure earlier this year, The Ritz Club was one of the most famous and glamorous gambling establishments in the world with a cellar to match its reputation for luxury.
Several bottles feature in the sale, including; four bottles of Le Pin 2007, a bottle of Romanée-Conti 2008, a jeroboam (3 litres) of Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac in a presentation wooden case. Additionally, a broad selection of top quality wines that have been kept in professional storage, including, Six bottles of Bonnes-Mares 2000, Domaine Georges Roumier . Not only this but, three cases of Hine 1955 Grande Champagne Cognac and A three-bottle case of La Tâche 2007.
