Anchored in the Past: Rob Doyle Design Unveils 50m Steamship-Inspired Concept
Irish Superyacht Design Studio Rob Doyle Design has now released the first renderings of its new 50-metre classic motor yacht concept, known currently as Project 111.
The concept takes inspiration from the classic steamship era of the late 19th century and early 20th century. After eight long years of remaining on the drawing board and an extensive amount of research, the design studio wanted to pay homage to the rich heritage attached to this past style of vessels.
Project 111 is on the cards to be one of the most innovative sailing yachts to date, with new, modern technologies seamlessly blending with an older, more traditional aesthetic.
Her interior is said to include multiple social and lounge spaces across the lower, main and bridge decks, with all deck equipment traditionally styled, but with modern handling in mind.
The client worked meticulously with the design team to achieve the yacht's classic profile, now envisioned with a sweeping shearline, bow and stern shape, with overhangs present at the fore and aft.
Rob Doyle Design have stated that all levels of comfort and safety will not comprise the classical nature of the vessel, and only the highest standard of materials, equipment and workmanship will be evident on board.
In terms of performance, she will be powered by Twin 559 kW Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines; providing a cruising speed of 14 knots and a maximum speed of 16 knots, and is said to be able to reach a range of 5000 nautical miles.
