Feadship's New Concept DUNES to be Unveiled During MYS 23’

In 2006, Feadship began presenting concept designs to drive research and design discussion towards a projection of what the next generation of Feadship owners will expect from their yachts. DUNES is the twelfth concept by the shipyard, representing Feadship’s goal of building Net-Zero superyachts by 2030.

There are a plethora of factors that contribute to the elimination of up to 95% of negative environmental impact factors, as ranked on the YETI index. These range from large overhangs that shade windows and reduce cooling requirements, to a new direction in fuel technology. 

DUNE's exterior design, whose flowing design mimics the concept’s name, is penned by Studio de Voogt. Inspired by the patterns found within nature itself, the idea of sand dunes which are timeless, yet ever changing, gave rise to the designers’ new visions of lines, flows, and adaptability. DUNES represents the onboard lifestyles that owners desire, as her spaces are adaptable, aesthetic, and varied.                     

Six guest staterooms are efficiently positioned in close proximity to the spaces that guests will spend the most time in, such as the pool deck and spa areas. The owner has a private deck and the guests’ staterooms are located on the Pavillion deck, the lack of bridge resulting in endless and spectacular views. 

One of the main features of DUNES are walk-around decks, offering alternate circulation routes, pop-up seating and socialising areas and the surprise of two small pools and a recessed bow seating. This is a perfect example of the adaptability of the design, as guests’ experiences on board are defined by excitement and versatility, as well as in the satisfaction of knowing that DUNES offers all the comforts one would expect from a Feadship yacht. Highlighting the designers vision being rooted in nature, the alfresco lounges have been envisioned as islands, depicted in beautiful golden, and sustainable, maple wood. 

Feadship’s Concept designs are set apart from other futuristic renderings as, although they contain all the qualities that resemble an unimaginable design, they are in fact buildable. A quantum sustainability leap is made within construction, as Feadship has begun shifting to low impact steel hull and aluminium/wood superstructure. Whilst wood is a CO2-negative material, these metals can be manufactured with 50-70 percent less CO2 emissions, showing the extent to which the manufactering proccess is sustainable 

Last May, a breakthrough high-efficiency electric propulsion system from ABB called Dynafin was unveiled. DUNES features this propulsion, alongside electrical power being generated from revolutionary solid oxide fuel cells which use green methanol as a reaction agent. 

Designers Thijs Orth and Tanno Weeda, together with specialist Bram Jongepier will be attending the Monaco Yacht Show, available at the Feadship stand, ready to explain the technologies and showcase the fresh design to visitors. Whilst information is kept tightly under wraps, more information will be released during the Monaco Yacht Show, and afterwards for those unable to attend.
