Upgrade Approved for Heritage-Listed Jones Bay Marina

Sydney Harbour’s Heritage-listed Jones Bay Marina has received council approval for an upgrade to its facilities. The planned upgrade would enhance Sydney’s offering for superyachts, responding to an ever-increasing demand from visiting vessels.

Jones Bay Marina provides superyachts with one of the most enviable locations to berth, nestled in the heart of Sydney’s vibrant city with unobstructed views of the Harbour Bridge. Considering its Heritage-listed status and central location, large scale expansions to the marina would be hard-fought.

With a growing domestic fleet and an increased impetus from foreign vessels to capitalise on Australia’s new charter opportunities, there has been a clear need for marine infrastructure to match the demand.

The approval of Jones Bay Marina’s upgrade was reached by a unanimous decision by the council and local planning panel, an outcome that has been lauded by owners and management of the iconic facility.

Significant capital is to be invested into the harbourside marina over the course of the coming year. This will see a raft of essential upgrades, including the installation of new floating pontoon berths and a custom-designed floating office. In addition, the marina will also benefit from improved power and water supply, as well as upgrades to its other amenities for visiting yachts and their crews.

With the Australian superyacht industry in a sustained period of growth, Nairn Johnston CMM, General Manager of Jones Bay Marina, views this as the most opportune time to invest in marina upgrades.

“As many will know, getting planning approval on Sydney Harbour is a long and laborious process,” shared Johnston. “So this news is a great outcome for both local and visiting yachts to Sydney Harbour; for the large superyachts who frequent it due to its proximity to the CBD, and for all the trades, businesses and suppliers that support and service the vessels that berth at our marina.”

Owned by the Toga Group of companies, Jones Bay Marina provides a base for some of Australia’s most sought-after charter yachts and prestigious companies. This month, Jones Bay Marina will once again host the annual Superyacht Australia Soirée.

Nairn Johnston recognised the importance of a range of key stakeholders, including Ethos Urban and Copley Marine, in achieving the favourable result for the Marina.

“We want to take a moment to thank our partners for their collective efforts,” he said. “And we look forward to taking bookings for the new marina additions and to welcoming more yachts to an already exceptional tenant list.”

With upgrades scheduled to take place over the course of this year, we look forward to providing further coverage on one of Australia’s premier marina facilities.
